Low Levels of Visitors to the Site

“How can I keep visitors returning to my site?”

This is a question which can make or break any online company. However, this question applies not only to big-shot e-commerce masters but also down to common bloggers. Visitors to sites are indispensable to the site's and company's growth over time. That is the reason why attracting visitors is up in the list of priorities of many webmasters.

Having a steady flow of visitors to your site leads to more page views. For an online business or company, this is almost a sure predictor of higher revenue. If you are simply blogging, more visitors would mean a solid community of readers.

Experts in seach engine optimization (SEO) consider the level of visitors to a site of moderate importance. They agree, in general, that a low level of visitor of any site would affect its ranking in Google's results page. It is even more detrimental, they say, if your competitor's site has visitor levels that are glaring higher than yours. Some experts also point out to the time spent on the site. The longer the visitors stay, the better. But if visitors rarely come, this could also mean you have a terrible meta description, but not necessarily horrible content.

Your site's number of visitors is also a reflection of your site's quality. It may sound like common sense: if your site is of no good, visitors would be hard to come by. Why would big search engines (e.g. Google) put your site up there in the results page when no one wants to go there? Again, check your site's quality.

The number of visitors to your site can be measured using a Toolbar, Counters, or clicks in the search engine results page (SERP). Most of these are free and can distinguish between unique (first-time) and repeat visitors. Don’t be agonized if you have a low visitor count. There are several ways to boost your popularity among surfers—and possibly increase your Google ranking too.

Looks matter. The same applies to websites. The first things visitors see are your branding and logo. This is the reason why web wizards spend bucks on their company's logo. Using either a cool or professional font or a wacky or enticing picture makes your visitor either feel at home or feel secure in your site.

Using personal pronouns makes your content more personal and creates a bond that pulls in your readers. Customer service should be emphasized. Make your readers feel at home and trust your site. Making the Contact button visible reinforces visitors’ trust in your site.

Satisfied consumers, or simply enlightened readers, are more likely to refer new visitors. But remember that a disappointed customer or reader can also spread the news. So watch your attitude and business ethic.

You can also promote your site by opening a forum or blog within it. Everyone loves something new. Readers crave for fresh content, so do your best to regularly update your site. Post new articles to keep visitors returning. Also, stimulating discussions and comments about topics related to your site would entice readers to check new content and comments on a regular basis.
