"Forty days and a book"
Today the average life span is 25,550 days. That’s how long you will live if you are typical. Don’t you think it would be a wise use of time to set aside 40 of those days to figure out what God wants you to do with the rest of them?
Just on reading these words, I knew I was spellbound to read the rest of the book. This book was unlike others that they call “self-help books,” which teach strategies in choosing a career, finding the perfect partner, enhancing talents, overcoming depression, succeeding in studies, being liked by everyone, losing weight… My favorite book teaches how to live.
At the first pages of the bestseller “The Purpose Driven Life,” author Rick Warren incisively urge readers to read one of the book’s 40 chapters every day. The number 40 is a spiritually significant number, moreover, it gives time for readers to reflect and consider each chapter before reading the next.
A spiritual book all throughout (and written by a religious pastor, at that), the book attempts not to share tips or suggestions, but to show realities and let the reader grasp these realities. The text were based on facts about the nature of man, statistical data (including surveys and experiences of those who have found their purpose), and passages from the Scriptures.
There is much to learn in reading this and I, like others before me, do not wish to spill the beans (there are too many). The most I can say is that I have read this book. I testify with first-hand data. After reading this book, I was a different person. Every second counted and I made sure everything I do is important and has a good reason. My life finally has meaning, a direction, a purpose. And I have started toward it.
